Study-In-Africa: 2024 DAAD In-Country/In-Region Scholarships Program for African Students

The goal of the DAAD In-Country/In-Region Scholarships is to support robust, globally focused higher education systems in Sub-Saharan Africa that can support sustainable development. The scholarships are available to Africans.

In order to achieve this, scholarships are given to people who want to study for a master’s or doctorate in development-related fields and who intend to work as teachers or researchers in Sub-Saharan African higher education institutions.

Within the framework of the In-Country/In-Region Scholarship Program, the DAAD provides master’s and doctoral scholarships.

DAAD In-Country/In-Region Scholarships Details:

Doctorate and master’s level scholarships are available from DAAD as part of the “In-Country/In-Region Scholarship Program.”

The German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) funds the DAAD In-Country/In-Region Scholarships program, which targets university staff members in the front line while also acknowledging the need for academically trained personnel in the public sector.

Requirements for DAAD In-Country/In-Region Scholarships:

To be considered for the DAAD In-Country/In-Region Scholarships, you must:

  • The target group for scholarships are graduates and postgraduates from Sub-Saharan Africa with a first academic degree if applying for a master’s programme, or with a master’s degree if applying for a doctoral program who want to pursue master’s or PhD courses in their home country (so called In-Country scholarships) or in another Sub-Saharan African country (In-Region scholarships).
  • Female applicants and candidates from less privileged regions or groups are especially encouraged to participate in the program.
  • Please note that In-Country scholarships for students from South Africa are administrated by (NRF)

Benefits of DAAD In-Country/In-Region Scholarships

Funding for the DAAD In-Country/In-Region Scholarships is given for the normal length of a course, which is typically up to three years for PhD degree programs and up to two years for master’s degree programs.
